While you seek jobs, Fraudsters seek your money

There are many popular job portals that are committed to safe and secure job search, and have undertaken strong measures to discourage emails with fraud job offers from reaching the job seekers’ inbox. Still many fraudulent elements are able to break these firewalls and cheat the job seekers. A few tips are appended to make one aware of how to detect such fraud/scam mails and make the job search safer.

A job portal is a platform that brings together Jobseekers and Employers. Normally, they neither recruit nor do act as a labor consultant or employment partner of any employer. The portals are used by numerous corporate, placement companies, and recruitment firms for genuine business purposes. However, sometimes, false job postings are listed online, and non-existing job offers are sent via email to illegally collect personal information and/or money from unsuspecting job seekers.

Indicators to check if an email from an employer/recruiter is a fraud/scam mail:
1. If the name of the company is not heard before, search on Yahoo, Google or MSN to see if the company has a genuine website. Also check if other people have reported that the employer has been involved in job scams previously.
2. If the mail asks for personal, non-work related information such as Credit Card numbers or Bank information over phone or email
3. If the mailer has used free email IDs to contact you or as ‘reply to’ email IDs. For example, if you get a job offer from XYZ Petroleum Company, and their email ID is
xyzpetroleum@gmail.com or xyzpetroleum@yahoo.com then it is most probably a fake company. Real companies use their own domain name on their email, and do not use free email providers.
4. If the ‘reply to’ email ID is different from the ‘from’ email ID
5. If the contact telephone numbers are mobile phone numbers
6. If the mailer asks for money-transfers, or payment for any employment/recruitment related purpose, such as immigration and visa processing, travel etc
7. If it offers jobs without a face to face interview
8. If the mail offers jobs you have not applied for
9. If it offers unrealistic amounts of remunerations/benefits
Before responding to such emails, it is strongly recommended that a discreet enquiry to verify the legitimacy of the employer is done. Remember, if you receive any suspicious email communication from a client of the job portal where you have registered, immediately report it to the portal so as to enable them to take corrective action against such abuses.

But to the New Mexico Sun News (a bi-monthly newspaper), Obama has already won.

It’s Oct 26-Nov 8 issue had to hit the newsstands, before the election. So the editors decided to make a leap of faith and declare Democrat Barack Obama the winner.

How an otherwise un-biased newspaper is able to make a decision like this?

Because, they believe in the idiom that there will always be a woman behind the success of every man. Is it true for Obama also?

Yes, you guessed it right. Sarah Palin is there !!!
